Dr. Jennette Allen-McCombs is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work. She holds an MSW and Ph.D. in Social Welfare from Stony Brook University. Her current research focuses on equity, cultural wealth, higher education policy, and first-generation college students. Dr. Allen-McCombs’ research interests are driven by her commitment to anti-racism, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Dr. Allen-McCombs’s goal as a researcher is to ensure that all identities, particularly those that have been historically excluded, are represented and supported in higher education spaces. She employs a constructivist approach to investigate the lived experiences of individuals by honoring their unique voice allowing them to be experts in their own lives. Dr. Allen-McCombs teaches several courses, including social work practice, human behavior in the social environment, and methods of social work research. As a New York State licensed social worker, Dr. Allen-McCombs dedicated her career to assisting youth in crisis in a variety of settings from medical clinics to State and County justice systems.
