The Status of The SEEK Scholar

Scholars accepted into the SEEK Program become full-time matriculated scholars of the college, pursuing courses leading to the baccalaureate degree in all major programs of the college including pre-medical, pre-law, and pre-engineering.

SEEK scholars add a positive dimension to York College through academic excellence, involvement in student organizations, and college governance committees and many have graduated with academic honors.

SEEK Program Requirements

To be eligible for SEEK, you must:

  • Be a legal resident of New York State for atleast one year prior to entering college.
  • Be a high school graduate or recipient of a state-approved equivalency diploma.
  • Be a first-time freshman or previously enrolled in a College Discovery (CD) Program, an Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), of Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP).

* If you are neither a U.S. citizen nor eligible non-citizen, you may apply for NYS administered grants and scholarships by completing the NYS DREAM Act application at New York State HESC Dream

  • Have a GPA of 70 or above.
  • Have a gross family income that meets the New York State guidelines listed below.
  • Have not previously attended an institution of post-secondary education, except in the case of veterans who are permitted up to 18 credits earned during or prior to their tour of duty in the armed forces.

For the 2023-24 incoming class, the 2022 income poverty guidelines are to be used with the 2021 tax information when selecting eligible scholars.

Financial Aid

Financial Aid is provided individually according to the scholar's demonstrated and documented financial needs. The SEEK Program awards financial assistance to economically eligible scholars to cover such expenses as transportation, books, and college fees. All SEEK scholars must apply for the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) and PELL on a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form mailed to scholars at the beginning of the year.

Incoming Transfer Students

Transfer Students from College Discovery (CD), EOP, HEOP, and SEEK are eligible to transfer into SEEK program provided that they have remaining semesters of eligibility. Transfer students must complete the CUNY online transfer application.
